Frank Langella ’59, Daryl Roth ’66 and David Rockwell ’79 all came away with wins from the 70th annual Tony Awards Sunday night. They were among nine şÚÁϲ»´ňěČ alumni who were nominated for their accomplishments on Broadway over the past year. The awards were dedicated to the victims and survivors of the Sunday morning attack at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla.
Frank Langella
Langella won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for “The Father.” He graduated from the University with a degree in theater arts, and is considered among America’s greatest stage and film actors, known for his onstage presence and versatility. Over the course of his career, he has won international acclaim and has been the recipient of more than two dozen nominations and awards, including Tonys, Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, Cable ACE Awards, Obies and critics’’ awards.
Roth’s award came as producer of “The Humans,” which won the Tony for Best Play. She was also nominated for “Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge” and “Arthur Miller’s The Crucible,” both nominated for Best Revival of a Play, and “Shuffle Along, or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed,” nominated for Best Musical. She has produced seven Pulitzer Prize-winning plays and won eight previous Tonys. She has produced over 90 award-winning productions, both on and off-Broadway.
Rockwell won for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for “She Loves Me.” He is a graduate of the School of Architecture and founder of Rockwell Group, an architecture and design studio. Honors include the AIA New York President’s Award, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award and Presidential Design Award. His Broadway credits include “On the Twentieth Century” (Tony nomination), “On Your Feet,” “Sylvia,” “You Can’t Take It With You” (Tony nomination), “Kinky Boots” (Tony nomination), “Lucky Guy” (Tony nomination), “Hairspray” (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle nominations).
