College of Law

The will be holding its seventh 鈥淰alor Day鈥 event on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dineen Hall. Local attorneys, a financial advisor and a career services representative will be providing free legal, financial, career and counseling services for veterans, active duty service members and their immediate families. 鈥淰alor Day,鈥 or Veterans鈥 Advocacy, Law and Outreach, demonstrates how College of Law students are dedicated to giving back to those who served in a tangible, beneficial manner.

Services available during 鈥淰alor Day鈥 include legal consultations with attorneys who specialize in different areas (including veterans鈥 legal issues, family law, criminal law, estate and planning issues.) Attendees can also have resumes critiqued and receive credit counseling. The event will include a veterans鈥 information fair with representatives from more than 10 veteran and government organizations on site to discuss their services.

鈥淰alor Day provides our students, as well as local lawyers and organizations, with a way to make a direct impact in the life of a veteran, service member or their families,鈥 says Yelena Duterte, director of the College of Law鈥檚 Veterans Legal Clinic. 鈥淲e have seen over the past few years how these meetings make a difference in many lives.鈥

鈥淰alor Day鈥 is coordinated by VISION (Veterans Issues, Support Initiative and Outreach Network), a student-run College of Law organization. Since its inception in 2012, 鈥淰alor Day鈥 has assisted more than 280 veterans and their families by providing access directly to services they need the most.

Appointments made in advance are suggested, but not required. Free parking is available in the Stadium lot during “Valor Day.” For more information or to arrange an appointment, contact VISION@law.syr.edu or call 315.401.0810 or visit SUVISION.syr.edu.
