Brown Bag Seminar to Focus on Information Systems in Patient Care Nov. 3

An informal “brown bag” lunchtime seminar hosted by the School of Information Studies (iSchool) will focus on medical patient care systems and information systems in a health care environment.

Featuring James Walker, senior director of innovation solutions for Cerner Corporation, the seminar is titled “The Patient’s Care Team: Its complexity, with implications for care-system re-design and information systems.”

It will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, in 347 Hinds Hall (Katzer Room).

Walker has spent more than 20 years developing and implementing health information systems and evaluating their usability, usefulness and safety. At Cerner, he analyzes the patient’s work system to design transformative information tools for the patient and the rest of the patient’s care team.

Previously, Walker was principal healthcare informatician for Siemens Healthcare and director of its Innovation Center. Prior to joining Siemens, Walker was the chief health information officer at Geisinger Health System, director of the Keystone Health-Information Exchange and project director of the Keystone Beacon community from 2001-2013.

The seminar is free and open to the community.
