Shobha Bhatia, the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering in the , has been appointed to the National Committee on Geological and Geotechnical Engineering. The committee also serves as a central point for discussions among academic and professional groups, government agencies and industry to develop and sustain collaborations and exchanges of information. The scope of work for this committee includes earth processes and materials, including the mechanics of rock and soil, and safe and responsible human development, risk assessment and mitigation of natural and anthropogenic hazards.
