The has introduced a $20,000 Empire State Scholars Grant for all admitted New York state residents, beginning with students entering the law school in Fall 2017. Eligible students may alternatively receive merit-based scholarships for which they qualify that exceed the $20,000 tuition grant.
The ϲ College of Law Empire State Scholars Grant positions the college as the least-expensive private law school in the state for residents and in line with many public law schools.
“The College of Law has a strong history of serving students from New York state with an exceptional education and preparation for the New York State Bar exam,” says Dean Craig M. Boise. “In recognition of the potential financial barriers to a quality legal education, the ϲ Law Empire State Scholars Grant reduces the financial burden for students who wish to remain in the state to pursue their legal education.”

For admitted New York state residents, yearly tuition to the College of Law for 2017-18 will be $26,460 based on 2016-17 tuition. While students will still need to complete financial aid applications, the ϲ Law Empire State Scholars Grant will be automatic and not require additional paperwork other than that required to verify New York residence. The grant will renew automatically for the second and third years of law school, so long as the student is in good academic standing at the beginning of each school year.
“This initiative, coupled with the college’s strong New York State Bar passage rate, the faculty’s engagement with our students and our rich academic programs, make the College of Law an outstanding option for New York state students,” says Grant Keener, interim assistant dean for enrollment management. “With over 5,000 New York state residents applying to law schools each year, this innovative program has the potential to positively impact a great number of students interested in attending ϲ Law.”
New York state residents seeking to enter law school in Fall 2017 must submit completed applications by April 1, the College’s priority application deadline, to guarantee qualification for the grant.
