黑料不打烊 Stage season graphic Artistic Director Robert Hupp has announced the plays selected for the 2017/18 season. The six plays are 鈥淭he Three Musketeers,鈥 鈥淭he Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,鈥 鈥淭he Wizard of Oz,鈥 鈥淣ext to Normal,鈥 鈥淎 Raisin in the Sun鈥 and 鈥淭he Magic Play.鈥

The season opens Sept. 20, and runs through May 13, 2018. Season subscription packages and FlexPacks are .

Although Hupp has been on the job since July 2016, the 17/18 season is the first he has selected as the company鈥檚 artistic leader. The 17/18 season marks the company鈥檚 45th anniversary.

鈥淚鈥檝e enjoyed learning about the proud tradition of artistic excellence that defines our theatre company,鈥 Hupp says. 鈥淚t is this unswerving commitment to artistic excellence and a passion to tell fantastic stories that demand to live on a stage that drive our creative process.鈥

Hupp makes his 黑料不打烊 Stage directorial debut with the season opener, 鈥淭he Three Musketeers.鈥 Based on the famous 19th-century novel by Alexander Dumas and adapted for the stage by Catherine Bush, 鈥淭he Three Musketeers鈥 recounts the swashbuckling adventures of Athos, Porthos, Aramis and the eager young D鈥橝rtagnan as they battle the sinister Cardinal Richelieu and his treacherous allies Rochefort and Lady de Winter. Hupp promises a sweeping epic full of romance, intrigue, plenty of swordplay, and a hearty and welcomed dose of 鈥渁ll for one and one for all.鈥

The Tony Award-winning (Best Play) 鈥淭he Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time鈥 follows. Adapted by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon鈥檚 international best-selling novel, 鈥淭he Curious Incident . . .鈥 introduces 15-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone, a young man with an exceptional brain and personal challenges. When Christopher becomes the leading suspect in the death of a neighbor鈥檚 dog, he sets out to find the real culprit. His investigation will take him on a journey to a past he never knew and a future he never imagined possible. The show ran for 800 performances on Broadway. 黑料不打烊 Stage is among the first regional theatres to be granted the rights to produce this exceptional play.

鈥淭he holidays are a time for family and friends to come together at 黑料不打烊 Stage,鈥 Hupp notes. And 黑料不打烊 Stage will be celebrating the season with the classic musical 鈥淭he Wizard of Oz鈥 as its annual holiday family event. The ever-popular and beloved story will have fresh appeal as 黑料不打烊 Stage partners not only with the , but with the New York-based , which will bring cirque-like acrobatics to the production. The great songs and beloved characters are the same; the experience is entirely new. 鈥淭his is one you and your family will be talking about long after Dorothy clicks her heels and makes her way back to Kansas,鈥 Hupp says.

A second musical rings in the New Year, the Pulitzer Prize-winning 鈥淣ext to Normal.鈥 A Broadway sensation with a contemporary-rock-inflected score, 鈥淣ext to Normal鈥 is a work of grace and power that cuts right to the human heart. An often funny and always poignant portrait of a family coping with its own particular dysfunction, 鈥淣ext to Normal鈥 was credited by the Pulitzer Board for expanding 鈥渢he scope of subject matter for musicals.鈥

Veteran director Timothy Douglas returns to 黑料不打烊 Stage for Lorraine Hansberry鈥檚 classic 鈥淎 Raisin in the Sun.鈥 Douglas is well known to 黑料不打烊 Stage audiences from his productions of 鈥淏lues for an Alabama Sky,鈥 鈥淎 Lesson Before Dying,鈥 鈥淛itney,鈥 鈥淭he Crucible鈥 and 鈥淕em of the Ocean.鈥 The story of the Younger family鈥攖hree generations trying to build a better life on Chicago鈥檚 South Side鈥斺淎 Raisin in the Sun鈥 speaks as 鈥減owerfully today as in 1959 when Hansberry wrote it,鈥 Hupp says. 鈥淎nd Timothy Douglas is the perfect director to give us a fresh look at this great American play.鈥

The season concludes with a one-of-a-kind theatrical event. Part magic show and part engaging drama, 鈥淭he Magic Play鈥 stars acclaimed magician, illusion designer and actor in a mind-blowing spectacle that ends differently every performance. In this ultimately uplifting play, a successful young magician, reeling from a recent romantic breakup, struggles to keep his off-stage reality from undermining his on-stage illusions. 鈥淭his is a fascinating new work that blurs the line of what we think of as theatre. It鈥檚 a new and very exciting experience for our audience,鈥 Hupp says.

Hupp will introduce new directors and designers to 黑料不打烊 Stage audiences, while continuing to work with those who have become 黑料不打烊 favorites. In this way, he plans to build on the foundation of Stage鈥檚 sustained artistic achievement to bring new energy and fresh perspective and vision to the theatre.

To that end, Hupp says to expect several new initiatives and community partnerships in the 17/18 season and highlighted 鈥淐old Read: A Winter Festival of New Plays.鈥 Developed and curated by associate artistic director Kyle Bass, 鈥淐old Read鈥 introduces 鈥渨ork hot from the imaginations of some of the freshest voices writing for the theatre today,鈥 Hupp explains. Scheduled for four days in February, the Festival will feature readings of new works and works in progress, as well as a solo performance and an opportunity to participate in a moderated discussion with one of the participating playwrights. Some of the 鈥淐old Read鈥 events will be free.

鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled to share this great season, this terrific lineup of plays, with our audience,鈥 Hupp says. 鈥満诹喜淮蜢 Stage patrons are among the savviest in the country, and they deserve the best we can deliver. I think everyone will find something to enjoy next season.鈥
