New recruits were sworn in Monday and will begin training with the Department of Public Safety Academy.
On Monday morning, eight new recruits were sworn into the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Department of Public Safety Academy by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Police Chief Frank Fowler. Chief Fowler performed the swearing in of the academy recruits as an official welcome and endorsement of the joint law enforcement efforts in the University area, and to provide University officers with authority to enforce New York State law and local ordinances.
The recruits sworn into the academy are Cassandra Franco, Andrew Kratz, Dayna MacMaster, Kara Mertens, Michael Mertz, Eric Nemier, Robert Tinsley and Conor Young. Seven of these individuals are training to become ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ peace officers and one individual is training to become a member of the Campus Safety team at Onondaga Community College.
Over the next 14 weeks, the academy challenges the recruits to technical, physical, classroom and field-based tests. Following successful completion of the academy, graduates will begin their field training with their respective field training officers.
The University’s provides round-the-clock protection to the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ campus. Through various patrol and crime prevention efforts, DPS partners with students, faculty and staff to identify, recognize and eliminate crime hazards and risks within the campus community.
