Faculty Research on Water, Energy, Design to Be Featured at 17th Annual 黑料不打烊CoE Symposium

The 17th annual symposium organized by the 黑料不打烊 Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (黑料不打烊CoE) will feature presentations by 黑料不打烊CoE Faculty Fellows and collaborating researchers聽who target innovations in water, energy and design for healthy, vibrant communities. The event, which will be held Oct. 4 at the Crowne Plaza 黑料不打烊 and 黑料不打烊CoE鈥檚 headquarters, also will include presentations by three keynote speakers and a student poster competition.

Keynote speakers for this year鈥檚 Symposium are:

  • Brewster McCracken, president and CEO of Pecan Street Institute, who will present 鈥淏ring on the data: How you can use data to solve cities鈥 greatest resource and environmental challenges
  • John Fernandez, professor and director of the building technology program and the urban metabolism group at MIT, who will present 鈥淭he future of cities and the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative鈥; and
  • Jeff Peterson, senior advisor for entrepreneurship at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, who will present 鈥淐lean energy innovation and research partnerships for a sustainable future.鈥

鈥満诹喜淮蜢菴oE is proud to offer our 17th annual聽symposium, featuring work being done by our faculty fellows, their students and collaborators from around the country,鈥濃 says Edward Bogucz, executive director of 黑料不打烊CoE and associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the at 黑料不打烊. 鈥淲e look forward to attracting a diverse community of students, faculty members and practitioners to attend, and to fostering 鈥榠ntellectual collisions鈥 that lead to new collaborations.鈥

黑料不打烊CoE Faculty Fellows developed the programs for nine separate symposium sessions, which are organized in three parallel tracks: Water in Urban Environments, Energy Resources and Design in Urban Environments. Individual sessions include:

  • 鈥淐limate change and urban systems,鈥 chaired by Charles Driscoll, University Professor of Environmental Systems Engineering, 黑料不打烊;
  • 鈥淯rban water and infrastructure,鈥 chaired by Christa Kelleher, assistant professor of earth sciences and civil and environmental engineering, 黑料不打烊;
  • 鈥淗ydrologic behavior in urban environments,鈥 chaired by Laura Lautz, Jessie Page Heroy Professor and chair, Department of Earth Sciences, 黑料不打烊;
  • 鈥淚mproving combustion engines through reliable ignition prediction and control,鈥 chaired by Ben Akih-Kumgeh, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, 黑料不打烊;
  • 鈥淎dvanced energy conversion and storage technologies,鈥 chaired by Jeongmin Ahn, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, 黑料不打烊;
  • 鈥淏iorefineries, biofuels and bioproducts,鈥 chaired by Biljana Bujanovic, associate professor of paper and bioprocess engineering, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry;
  • 鈥淒esigned material systems,鈥 chaired by Daekwon Park, assistant professor of architecture, 黑料不打烊.
  • 鈥淏ig data, urban energy modeling and visualization for community engagement鈥 (two sessions), chaired by Bess Krietemeyer, assistant professor of architecture, 黑料不打烊, and Tarek Rakha, assistant professor of architecture, 黑料不打烊.
