Over 100 graduate, undergraduate and students from the 鈥檚 will spend Oct. 19鈥22 documenting the lives of 黑料不打烊 residents as part of the school鈥檚 annual Fall Workshop.
The students will use photography, recorded sound, video and writing to tell stories of people in the surrounding community. Their work will be published online at in the weeks following the workshop, but live updates will be posted throughout the weekend.

The event will open with a talk by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Ren茅e C. Byer on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, Newhouse 3.
Byer is an award-winning documentary photojournalist and Emmy-nominated multimedia field producer best known for her in-depth work focusing on the disadvantaged and those who otherwise would not be heard. Her ability to produce photographs with profound emotional resonance and sensitivity earned her the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography in 2007 and dozens of national and international honors, including the World Understanding Award from Pictures of the Year International. She was also a Pulitzer finalist in 2013.
Byer has traveled throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America covering some of the most important issues of our time. Her stories have deepened our understanding of the environment, climate change, extreme poverty, genetically modified food, healthcare, women at war, domestic violence and the drought and economic crisis in California.

Thirty-five professional photojournalists, video producers, graphic designers, photo editors, writers and other visual communicators from across the country will spend the weekend at Newhouse, providing advice and guidance as coaches.
On Sunday, Oct. 22, participating students will present their final stories in a community show from noon-2 p.m. The event will begin with a reception in the lobby of Newhouse 1, where the print show will be on display, followed by a viewing of the multimedia stories in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3 to view the multimedia stories.
