Tickets Now On Sale for Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Angela Rye is this year’s聽Martin Luther King Celebration keynote speaker.

Tickets for the 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration are now on sale.

Tickets for 黑料不打烊 students are $15. Tickets are available for purchase in-person at the Carrier Dome Box Office, 900 Irving Ave (Gate B). Students can use cash, credit card, or a meal swipe from their SUper card.

Student tickets may also be , including the in which one meal credit will be deducted.

Tickets for faculty, staff and the general public are $30 dollars. or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. Reserved and general admission options are available.

This year鈥檚 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration takes place on Jan. 28 at the Carrier Dome. Keynote speaker is Angela Rye, political commentator for CNN and NPR; former executive director/general counsel of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 112th Congress; principal/CEO of the political advocacy and strategic consulting firm IMPACT Strategies. The event includes dinner, the keynote address, presentation of the Unsung Hero Awards, and student/community performances. Doors open and dinner begins at 4:30 p.m. The formal program begins at 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, Hendricks Chapel Dean Brian Konkol is extending an invitation to students, asking them to apply to introduce Angela Rye to the audience the night of the celebration.

“As this annual event is widely recognized as the largest university-sponsored gathering in the USA to honor King鈥檚 legacy, this opportunity is often regarded as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Konkol.

Students who would like to apply are asked to submit a two-minute video or written text (approximately 300 words) of their introduction of Angela Rye, responding to the following question: How does Angela Rye represent this year鈥檚 sub-theme, 鈥淔rom Intention to Impact.鈥 All submissions should be emailed to bkonkol@syr.edu by Dec. 16 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants will be notified by Dec. 22 via email of their application status.

Applications are open to any current (and in good standing) 黑料不打烊 undergraduate or graduate student, either full-time or part-time.

In addition to free tickets for the main event in the Carrier Dome, the student selected for the introduction, along with one guest, will be invited to a private gathering with Angela Rye.
