ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Student Association (SA) has purchased additional tickets to Sunday’s Martin Luther King Celebration at the Dome, and plans to begin distribution today (Thursday) at the Schine Student Center.

SA leadership had already purchased tickets for students, which were given away through Campus and Commuter Services and Hendricks Chapel. The additional tickets will be distributed for free to any undergraduate student who cares to attend this year’s celebration. Angie Pati ’18, SA Vice President, explained that it was part of SA’s ongoing effort to make sure all students who want to attend the event are able to.

“Martin Luther King Jr. was so much more than a man with a dream,” said Pati. “He was an individual who fought relentlessly against systemic inequality, voicing concepts and advocating for equality that was abhorred by many. He fought until he was killed for fighting. When celebrating his life, we must acknowledge the dynamic nature of his legacy—and the ongoing necessity for his legacy in our world today.” Pati goes on to say that “Student Association is honored to be able to purchase tickets for students, as we feel that if students aren’t able to access an incredible event like this one, we are indirectly contributing to the societal injustice that Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life fighting against. We have a long way to go as a nation and as a world, and we believe that this celebration is a small reflection of the progress we need to be making.”

Tickets will be available for free to all undergraduate students beginning today in room 126 of the Schine Student Center. Please bring a student ID.

Tickets are also available online at . The event includes dinner, a keynote address, presentation of Unsung Hero Awards and student/community performances. The keynote speaker is Angela Rye, political commentator for CNN and NPR, former executive director/general counsel of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 112th Congress and principal/CEO of the political advocacy and strategic consulting firm IMPACT Strategies.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s yearly MLK Celebration is the largest on-campus event in the country honoring King’s legacy. Tickets for the public are $30 per person. Tickets are available for purchase in-person at the Carrier Dome Box Office, 900 Irving Ave (Gate B). Students can use cash, credit card, or a meal swipe from their SUper card.

The box office will be open on Friday, Jan. 26, until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, the box office is closed, but tickets may still be purchased online.
Sunday, Jan. 28, the box office at Gate A will open at 3:30 p.m. and any will-call tickets can be picked up. Tickets can also be purchased at this box office location.
