Brazil is working to get a handle on the worst outbreak of yellow fever in decades. Just this week, the government announced that it planned to vaccinate the entire country against the virus by April 2019.
is an assistant professor at ϲ’s , specializing in infectious disease epidemiology and malaria. Larsen says more research is needed to develop effective interventions to stop the spread of viruses like yellow fever.
Larsen says:
“The ongoing yellow fever transmission in Brazil highlights the huge impact that the Aedes aegypti mosquito has on human health. This is the same mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.
“We really have limited tools to fight the mosquito, and more research is needed to develop effective interventions.”
