The 21st annual French Colloquium, organized by the graduate students in French and Francophone studies, will be held Friday, April 13, 9:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the Peter Graham Commons, Bird Library 114. This year’s featured speaker will be Ben Peak G’15.
Dedicated to Professor Hope Glidden, the colloquium includes graduate, undergraduate and faculty presentations on topics related to the Francophone world.
Peak is returning from Johns Hopkins University to talk about his research in French literature, his relationship with Professor Glidden as a mentor and how she inspired and informed his scholarship. His keynote address will be at 1:30.
From 2:10 to 3:20, there will be a round table discussion conducted in English on the different ways a French proficiency can be useful for students both inside and outside of academia.
At 4:05 there will be a screening of “Les Stances à Sophie,” a film on 1970s Parisian feminism by French-Israeli filmmaker Moshé Mizrahi, with a score recorded by the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
