Throughout the summer, 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Sesquicentennial Steering Committee continued its work organizing a full schedule of events and activities that will mark the upcoming 150th anniversary of the University鈥檚 founding.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a busy and rewarding summer as we see the plans for the various 150th anniversary activities taking shape,鈥 says Bea Gonzalez, steering committee co-chair. 鈥淭he committee is working at a feverish pace to draft a working plan for a schedule of fantastic events as well as a marketing and communications plan to help promote the celebration across campus, the city of 黑料不打烊 and beyond.鈥

The sesquicentennial celebration will recognize the University鈥檚 storied past and present, and highlight the future built on a foundation of innovation, collaboration and inclusion. Anniversary activities will uplift and unite students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans across the globe through four main areas:

  • student life
  • academics and research
  • arts and culture
  • local, national and global community engagement

Kick off for the 150th celebration will take place in fall 2019, followed by a series of new and existing events throughout the academic year, building toward the official anniversary of the founding on March 24, 2020, and continuing until that June.

鈥淧lanning these types of yearlong events requires the support and insight of our entire University community,鈥 says Sue Ballard, steering committee co-chair. 鈥淲ith the fall semester underway, we are extending the call for more volunteers, most especially for our students, to join us on the steering committee.鈥

Students interested in participating on the steering committee may contact Gonz谩lez at bgonzale@syr.edu or Ballard at sjballar@syr.edu. Deadline is Sept. 14.
