More than 300 experts, scholars, and artists from across the globe have come together today and tomorrow (Nov. 2-3) to discuss art, architecture and design education at the International Art Education Conference in Beijing, China.
Hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA)—China’s most prestigious art academy—this top academic conference in art education is constructed of six forums featuring lectures and discussions on topics such as the evolving role of art education in a changing global context, the contribution to public education by both profit and nonprofit institutions, and the challenges of art museums in a digital age.
Among the presenters is Michael A. Speaks, dean and professor of the School of Architecture at ϲ, as part of the forum “Challenges: Reflexive Perspectives on Architectural Thoughts, Education, and Practice.”
Organized by Zhu Pei, dean and professor of School of Architecture at CAFA, and Rem Koolhaas, professor of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, “Challenges” convenes deans, curators and architects from the most important architecture schools in China and the world.
In the three sessions “Architectural Thinking and Challenge,” “Architectural Education and Challenge” and “Architectural Practice and Challenge,” the forum follows the lineage of open framework and fundamental reflection.
“We will inquire how we face the crisis situations of challenges and explore the cultural attitudes, projective projects and critical determination connected with the paradoxical moments under crisis. We will then redefine the origin, clarify the current moment, and create the future,” writes the Architecture School of CAFA.
