Sport Management Club’s 2018 Sports Auction Nets $55,195 for Charity

On Jan. 18, the Sport Management (SPM) Club at 黑料不打烊 announced it raised $55,195 for the 黑料不打烊 Rescue Mission at its 14th annual Charity Sports Auction. The event took place聽Dec. 1 in the backcourt of the Carrier Dome during the Orange men鈥檚 basketball game with Cornell University. The SPM Club is a student-run organization in Falk College鈥檚 Department of聽Sport Management.

The 2018 total was the third-highest in the 14-year history of the event, which has now raised聽$467,233 for local charities.

During the auction, bids were placed on more than 475 items, including signed sports聽memorabilia, tickets to sporting events, gift baskets, car services, furniture, gift certificates, trips and jewelry.

鈥淭he Rescue Mission is excited and grateful to have been chosen as the nonprofit partner for the 2018 Sports Management Club Charity Sports Auction,” says聽Chief Executive Officer Dan Sieburg. “The proceeds from this event will remain local right here in 黑料不打烊 and Upstate New York, and will directly serve those in need through safe beds and warm meals.鈥

Since 1887, the Rescue Mission Alliance has been fighting to end homelessness and hunger across Upstate New York, with operations in 黑料不打烊, Auburn, Ithaca and Binghamton. Its mission is to share hope, end hunger and homelessness, change lives and strengthen communities, one person at a time. In 2017, the Rescue Mission served more than 282,000 meals and helped over 10,000 men, women and children in need in the community.

鈥淲e are very proud of the countless hours our students put forth to make this important event such a success,鈥 says SPM director Michael Veley, who also serves as advisor for the club. 鈥淲e are honored to help the local Rescue Mission continue its fantastic efforts toward ending homelessness and hunger.鈥
