Master of fine arts (M.F.A.) candidates in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) will present the thesis exhibition 鈥淧lans Are Cancelled鈥� at three 黑料不打烊 exhibition spaces that are part of the .
The exhibition features the work of 24 M.F.A. candidates from VPA鈥檚 School of Art and Department of Transmedia and is curated by Scott Campbell, a Detroit-based visual artist and curator.
The exhibition schedule is as follows. All events are free and open to the public.

Artists鈥� Statement
鈥溾€橮lans Are Cancelled鈥� celebrates re-examination. People might think that the phrase itself hints towards the negative or conjures thoughts of disappointment and cynicism. But there is a certain agency in defining something for yourself, whether it be a night鈥檚 plans or a worldview. There鈥檚 power in shaping your reality based on what makes sense to you, on your sober examination of the facts, and not abiding by ones given to you by society and its various actors, however well-intentioned. Cancelled plans are opportunities for new ones to be made鈥攐nes that better fit the situation we currently find ourselves in. And let鈥檚 face it, as we get older we learn that sometimes cancelled plans are the best ones.鈥�
About the Curator
Working primarily in drawing, collage and mixed-media sculpture, Scott Campbell鈥檚 studio practice examines the social and cultural constructs that inform our identity, motivate our behavior and ultimately shape our societies. Visually inspired by semiotics and African American material culture, his work takes the form of serial projects, each created around a set of aesthetic guidelines which dictate the form, materiality and imagery in a given body of work. Campbell has exhibited widely in New York and throughout the Midwest and in 2017 was the inaugural Ford Curatorial Fellow at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. In addition to his studio and curatorial practice, Campbell is the artist liaison at Red Bull Arts Detroit, an artist residency and experimental, non-commercial exhibition space in Detroit鈥檚 Eastern Market neighborhood.
