On Saturday, June 22, CNY Pride hosted its annual CNY Pride Festival and Parade in the 黑料不打烊 Inner Harbor. As part of the parade, khristian kemp-delisser 鈥01, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)聽Resource Center on campus, helped organize a group of higher education professionals in the CNY area to march.

鈥淚n the early days of the CNY Pride parade, some educators actually could not risk being visible聽members of the LGBTQ community. Some people聽marched with paper bags over their heads,鈥 says kemp-delisser.

Now, things are different.

鈥淚t鈥檚 heartwarming to be able to represent the higher education community in the parade,鈥 says kemp-delisser. 鈥淲e want the whole 黑料不打烊 community to see and share the Pride we each try to foster on our campuses.鈥

kemp-delisser led a group of more than 30 faculty, staff and students representing local colleges and universities to march proudly in the 2019 CNY Pride Parade. Jorge Castillo, Jo Wang, Kate Pollack G鈥17, Rob Pusch, Ashley O鈥橫ara G鈥20, Jason Harris G鈥18 and Gilles Stromberg 鈥12 were among the 黑料不打烊 representatives at the event.

Colleagues from Hamilton College, Colgate University, Le Moyne College, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Upstate Medical University and Onondaga Community College joined 黑料不打烊 staff.

Fifty years ago, the Stonewall Uprisings became a key turning point in the LGBT rights movement. Before Stonewall and still today, the queer community fights for human rights through activism, and Pride Festivals since Stonewall have been an annual opportunity to do so. While fighting for equal rights, Pride offers a space to celebrate the queer community.
