More than 80 graduate, undergraduate and military visual journalism students from the Newhouse School will spend Oct. 3-6 documenting the lives of 黑料不打烊-area residents as part of the school鈥檚 annual Fall Workshop. The event is sponsored by the聽听诲别辫补谤迟尘别苍迟.
Students will use photography, recorded sound, video and writing to tell stories of people in the surrounding community. Their work will be published online at聽聽in the weeks following the workshop, but live updates will be posted throughout the weekend.
鈥淭he Fall Workshop is often cited by students as one of the best educational opportunities they had during their time in 黑料不打烊,鈥 says聽, VIS chair and executive director of the workshop. 鈥淲e are grateful to all the professional coaches who give freely of their time to help our students grow, and to the community members who open their doors to our students.鈥
The workshop will begin with a panel discussion on the photographer-editor relationship on Oct. 3 at 7:15 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, Newhouse 3. Panelists include聽, director of photography at National Geographic;聽, former photo editor at National Geographic, and聽, assistant professor of visual communications at the Newhouse School and a contributing photographer at National Geographic. Visuals consultant聽聽will serve as moderator.
About 25 professional photo editors, photographers, video producers, graphic designers and other visual communicators from across the country will provide advice and guidance as coaches. The weekend will conclude with a public community screening and exhibit on Sunday, Oct. 6, starting at noon in the lobby of Newhouse 1.
