Amidst the winter weather, Student Activities, Orange After Dark, the Traditions Commission and the Barnes Center at The Arch host an annual Winter Carnival, a celebration of the winter season that includes a number of games, activities and ways to engage with student groups across campus.
This year, the festivities begin with a full day of events on Tuesday, Feb. 25, on the Shaw Quad with free hot chocolate from 9 to 11 a.m. From there, students can head into the Life Sciences Atrium for Winter Carnival Days, filled with giveaways, free food and fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a , starting at 4:30 p.m. in Brockway, Graham, Ernie Davis, Shaw, Sadler and Goldstein dining halls. The menu will include “a never-ending soup” selection, fresh breads and butters, a hot cocoa station and ice cream sundaes.
At the heart of Winter Carnival is the on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 11 a.m. until supplies last on the Huntington Beard Crouse Hall patio. Each recipe will be tasted by a panel of judges, who will then score all submissions and provide trophies and prizes for the top three selections. There will also be a “People’s Choice Award” that the general public may vote on during their tasting.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in the free Moonlight Snowshoe Hike at Drumlins Country Club. Free roundtrip transportation is available, departing from College Place at 6 p.m. and returning by 10 p.m. Space is limited and interested students may register on the beginning Friday, Feb. 21.
“This year’s theme is ‘S’Winter,’ as in summer in the winter! Throughout the week we have a variety of activities planned including bingo, trivia, the chili cook off, paint night, snowshoeing and more” says Samantha Walters ’20, president of the Traditions Commission.
