Nina Kohn, the David M. Levy Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education at the College of Law, was quoted in the Guardian article “.” In 2018 Governor Andrew Cuomo faced difficulty in bid for governor, but he received a “last-minute boost” from a a powerful healthcare industry group that “suddenly poured more than $1m into a Democratic committee backing his campaign.” More recently, Cuomo signed legislation that shields “hospital and nursing home executives from the threat of lawsuits stemming from the coronavirus outbreak.” Professor Kohn, who is an expert on law surrounding elderly care, argues that there is a “longstanding problem holding nursing homes responsible, because if you look at government enforcement, it’s typically a slap on the wrist. A private lawsuit is often all you have left to hold a nursing home accountable.”
