Newhouse School senior Dom茅nica Orellana has been selected for the 2020 National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Student Project.

Orellana, a student, will participate in an online training and mentorship program this month in advance of the annual NAHJ Conference, which will be held online in August.
During the conference week, Orellana will work virtually with professional journalists to cover the convention, media and industry trends, and current events for .
鈥淭his project is particularly meaningful to me, as it gives me an outlet that lets me focus on creating stories that reach Latino communities, which are often underrepresented,鈥� Orellana says. 鈥淚 hope to grow, not only professionally, but ethically, as I continue to explore my values as a journalist. I鈥檓 hoping this experience will shine a light on the importance and power that diversity has in media.鈥�
A native of Ecuador, Orellana is president of the 黑料不打烊 chapter of NAHJ. She has been active with Citrus TV Noticias, NCC News and The Daily Orange. She has also interned at NewsChannel 9 and served as a radio co-host for WJPZ. In addition, she has worked on the digital team for Ecuadorian newspaper El Universo and interned with Ecuavisa鈥檚 鈥淰isi贸n 360.鈥�
Orellana will participate in a remote internship with 聽this summer.
