Applications are Open for Shared Competencies Student Ambassadors

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is seeking current first-year students from each school and college to be a part of its Shared Competencies Student Ambassador program.

Student Ambassadors will represent the on campus by spreading awareness of the learning goals to educate students, faculty and staff.

Student Ambassadors can expect to work between five and nine hours per week. Responsibilities include working with the University Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Shared Competencies to provide a student perspective; organizing and hosting co-curricular events for students; representing the shared competencies within your college or school; representing the Shared Competencies at University-wide events; and developing and leading presentations to faculty, staff and students about the Shared Competencies.

A will be held at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. Interested? Student Ambassadors are paid positions, and the is open until April 4. Faculty and staff are welcome to nominate deserving current first-year students.

Interested applicants should possess leadership experience, strong organizational, communication and time management skills, public speaking skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Student Ambassadors will gain skills in event planning, presentation skills, professionalism, leadership, collaboration, and communication.

The University Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Shared Competencies and the are responsible for planning and implementing the Shared Competencies, the University’s undergraduate-level, integrated, institutional learning goals.

The six competencies are: ethics, integrity, and commitment to diversity and inclusion; critical and creative thinking; scientific inquiry and research skills; civic and global responsibility; communication skills and information literacy and technological ability.

These learning goals help students communicate the value of their degree; connect their major field of study to liberal art requirements and co-curricular/other experiences; enable academic programs to integrate the Shared Competencies into the curriculum; and meet the University’s accreditation requirements.
