Student Experience

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

I write to you today with a heavy heart to share news of the passing of a member of our campus community. Yuyi Zhan, an economics major in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, passed away this morning. He was from Chengdu, China, and just started his third year at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.

I join Chancellor Kent Syverud and Provost Gretchen Ritter in extending our sincerest sympathies and condolences to Yuyi’s family, friends and loved ones on behalf of the Orange community. Please join us in keeping all those who knew and loved Yuyi in your thoughts as they mourn this loss.

We know how difficult it can be to lose a member of our community, friend or loved one. Please know that there are always resources and support available. For students, the Barnes Center at The Arch offers confidential counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling 315.443.8000. Students seeking ongoing assistance can reach the support services and case management team in Student Outreach and Retention, Monday through Friday, at 315.443.4357. For faculty and staff, trained clinicians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Carebridge, the University’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, by calling 800.437.0911. All campus community members may also contact Hendricks Chapel for additional support and services at 315.443.2901.

In this time of sadness, let us offer heartfelt support to all those grieving and continue to extend care and kindness to one another.

Sincerely,

Allen W. Groves
Senior Vice President and Chief Student Experience Officer
