Campos Foundation Scholarship Empowers Summer College STEM Students

Summer College, part of the Office of Pre-College Programs, has received a gift of $150,000 from the Campos Foundation to support recipients of the Campos Foundation Scholarship. The gift was part of a pledge of $2.15 million to 黑料不打烊 as part of the , supporting both Summer College and the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Summer College offers a range of immersive programs that allow high school students to gain real-world skills and enhance their professional portfolio.

Established in partnership with the Campos Foundation and the Office of Pre-College Programs, the scholarship builds on two years of previous support and aims to empower high school students enrolled in pre-college courses in the IT and engineering spaces. In 2022 and 2023, the scholarship supported a total of 59 students.

鈥淪tudents leave Summer College with a fresh outlook and a better understanding of who they are and the goals they want to achieve,鈥� says Christopher Cofer, executive director of the Office of Pre-College Programs. 鈥淭he Campos Foundation Scholarship offers access to a transformative experience.鈥�

Marco Campos P鈥�25, founder of the Campos Foundation, says he aims to 鈥渓evel the playing field鈥� for first-generation students and offer more opportunities for students of all backgrounds.

鈥淭his program offers students the opportunity to have exposure to networking and a college environment,鈥� Campos says. 鈥淲e want to help move the needle for students in the world of STEM.鈥�

Summer College offers a range of immersive programs that allow high school students to gain real-world skills and enhance their professional portfolio. Students who meet the criteria for the scholarship and are enrolled in the College of Engineering and Computer Science or School of Information Studies classes are automatically considered for the scholarship.

鈥淢y experience was fun, eye-opening, and a roller coaster,鈥� says Sylvia, a Campos Foundation Scholarship recipient previously enrolled in a Summer College biomedical engineering course. 鈥淭his experience made me more excited to go to college because it proved to me that I have what it takes. I am so thankful to the people who helped make this possible.鈥�

For more than 60 years, 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Office of Pre-College Programs, a department within the College of Professional Studies, has been providing high school students with the opportunity to explore potential college majors and careers in its renowned programs now happening year-round. High school students can experience college life online or on campus while taking credit or noncredit courses taught by 黑料不打烊 faculty and instructors.
