Walia is an applied health and labor econometrician. Her research interests are in the areas of health care efficiency (including markets for health care workers), maternal-child health, disability research and sports epidemiology. Her research work has appeared in leading field journals, including JAMA Network Open,ÌýPLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases,ÌýBMJ Global Health,ÌýJMIR Human Factors,ÌýJournal of Market Access & Health Policy,ÌýJournal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Sports Economics.

Before joining the Whitman faculty, she worked as a senior scientist at Integral Consulting, Inc. She also worked as a senior statistician at SUNY Upstate Medical University in ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, New York, and spent many years working for the National Park Service and the U.S.G.S. on long term monitoring questions associated with climate change. She has also consulted with numerous clients in need of statistical and quantitative solutions to business challenges and data questions.

Professor Pooler earned her B.F.A. in economics and metalsmithing from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, an MS. in statistics from Oregon State University, and her Ph.D. in statistics from Virginia Tech.
